After two months of accelerated construction to ensure completion before Vietnam’s traditional Lunar New Year, Visit Indochina, together with the People’s Committee of An Thang Ward, Da Nang City, held a handover ceremony on October 1 to present a newly built house to Ms. Trần Thị Lâm, a local resident of Thanh Quyt 1 neighborhood, An Thang Ward.

From a dilapidated, unsafe dwelling, a new home — beautifully designed and fully equipped — now stands on the same plot of land, bringing hope and warmth to Ms. Lâm’s family.

That morning, the small home was filled with heartfelt handshakes, smiles, and good wishes from well-wishers — many of whom were strangers. What was once a rundown shelter in a poor neighborhood beside National Highway 1A has now transformed into a peaceful, sturdy home surrounded by rows of areca palms — a story as heartwarming as a modern-day fairy tale.

A Gift from the Heart

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy, Director of Visit Indochina, shared that as a son of Quang Nam Province who once grew up in hardship, he was deeply moved when he first visited the family’s old house.

“Lâm is a young woman of great determination. Despite frailty and difficult circumstances, she has continued studying while caring for her mother and grandmother. When I visited their home, I saw in her the reflection of my own youth — those days in Hoi An when I dreamed of breaking free from poverty,” he said.

According to Mr. Thuy, what inspired him to quickly commit to building the house was the resilience and hope he saw in the two sisters — “two green shoots of light within a humble home.”

Although the family has no male breadwinner, a mother with mental health issues, and an elderly grandmother struggling to make a living, both sisters have shown remarkable perseverance. Lam has graduated from the University of Education, while her younger sister is completing her final year at the University of Foreign Languages in Da Nang — proof of their determination to overcome adversity through education.

'Giving Back to the Community That Raised Us'

"As entrepreneurs, we understand that business success is made possible by the opportunities life offers us. When we achieve stability, it becomes our responsibility to give back to those less fortunate. This house is not merely an act of charity — it is a heartfelt gift from me, a son of Quảng Nam, to a family in need. I hope they will receive it with joy,” Mr. Thủy said.

Recognition from Local Authorities

At the handover ceremony, Mr. Huỳnh Đức Nghĩa, Vice Chairman of the An Thang Ward People’s Committee, expressed deep appreciation for the generosity of Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy and Visit Indochina’s staff.

He noted that An Thang Ward — with a population of over 37,000 — remains home to many underprivileged families struggling to afford permanent housing. The local authorities, he said, always seek to mobilize resources from the community and private sector to help residents stabilize their lives.

“With an actual cost exceeding VND 300 million — compared to the original estimate of VND 200 million — this project reflects not only attention to quality and detail but also the compassion and sense of responsibility of Visit Indochina’s leadership,” Mr. Nghĩa said.

A Story of Resilience and Gratitude

In her emotional speech, Ms. Trần Thị Lâm expressed her deep gratitude to Visit Indochina, Mr. Thủy, and his family for their kindness and support.

The new house for Ms. Lâm’s family was funded entirely by Visit Indochina, with a total investment of VND 312 million. Construction began in July 2025 and was completed in just over two months — before the rainy season — to ensure the family could celebrate the Lunar New Year in their new home. The Lâm family is classified as near-poor. Ms. Lâm, a graduate in education, has been unable to find stable employment. Her mother suffers from mental illness, while her 87-year-old grandmother sells vegetables to support the household. The family’s previous house had deteriorated severely, with cracked walls and a broken floor, posing safety risks.

Following a site visit in July — after being informed by local authorities — Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy decided to rebuild the home completely for the four women of the household.

Compassion at the Heart of Sustainable Growth

The story of Ms. Lâm’s family is not only a testament to human kindness but also an example of how Visit Indochina, one of Vietnam’s leading international travel companies, integrates social responsibility into its corporate values.
