Vietnam’s Lunar New Year Tourism Booms With 14 Million Visitors, Turning Tet Travel Into A Signature Experience

Newly released data from the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism shows that during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, the country’s tourism sector served approximately 14 million visitors nationwide.

Many localities recorded double-digit growth in both visitor numbers and tourism revenue.
In the first days of the new year, spring travel activities were vibrant across major destinations such as Ho Chi Minh City, Ninh Binh, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Lao Cai and Tuyen Quang.
The extended holiday period combined with favorable weather conditions was considered a key factor driving a sharp increase in travel demand, sightseeing and leisure stays.
Ho Chi Minh City led the country in Tet tourism revenue, generating VND 12,150 billion. During the nine-day holiday (February 14–22), the city welcomed more than 4.32 million visitors to tourist attractions and sites, an increase of about 35 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
Da Nang ranked next with more than 1.1 million visitors, of which international tourists accounted for approximately 50 percent. Total tourism revenue reached VND 3,960 billion over the nine-day holiday, with average visitor spending estimated at around VND 3.6 million per trip.

In Ninh Binh, total arrivals exceeded 2.37 million, including more than 378,000 international visitors. Average hotel occupancy reached 85–90 percent, with many hotels and accommodation facilities operating at full capacity during peak days.
Hanoi was estimated to receive 1.34 million visitors, generating total revenue of VND 4,870 billion.
In Quang Ninh, spiritual tourism destinations such as Yen Tu and Cai Bau Pagoda recorded strong growth compared to the same period last year. Ha Long Bay alone welcomed approximately 79,000 visitors, primarily international tourists staying overnight on the bay. The province’s total tourism revenue reached VND 3,172 billion during the holiday period.
Lao Cai was also among the localities surpassing VND 1,000 billion in revenue, reaching VND 1,667 billion during Tet. Destinations such as Sa Pa, Bao Ha and Lao Cai City reported hotel occupancy rates above 80 percent.
