Sun PhuQuoc Airways (SPA) has announced the launch of a direct flight connecting Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport – BKK) and Phu Quoc (PQC), enhancing air connectivity between Thailand and Vietnam while promoting two-way tourism flows between two of the region’s leading resort destinations.

The inaugural flight is scheduled for August 8, 2026, with a frequency of one round trip per day. This is a full-service operation, providing an additional option for travelers on a route previously dominated mainly by low-cost carriers.

The flight duration between Bangkok and Phu Quoc is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, making it easier for Thai travelers to access Vietnam’s “Pearl Island,” which has been consistently recognized by international tourism organizations and travel publications as one of Asia’s most attractive island destinations.

The new route launch comes as Phu Quoc continues to strengthen its strategy to attract international visitors, particularly from Northeast and Southeast Asia markets.

Prior to Bangkok, Sun PhuQuoc Airways had already announced international routes connecting Phu Quoc with Singapore, as well as other regional markets including South Korea, Hong Kong (China) and Taiwan (China).

The timing is considered favorable for expanding connectivity with Thailand, as regional demand for island leisure travel is rebounding. Bangkok also serves as one of Southeast Asia’s major aviation hubs, offering strong transit potential for passengers traveling from multiple international markets to Phu Quoc.

Phu Quoc is currently emerging as one of Vietnam’s most dynamic resort destinations, featuring a diverse tourism ecosystem ranging from luxury resorts, the Hon Thom cable car over the sea, large-scale entertainment complexes, to year-round international performances for visitors.

Notably, the island is entering an accelerated infrastructure development phase in preparation for hosting the APEC 2027 Summit Week.

Key ongoing projects include the expansion of Phu Quoc International Airport with a new Terminal 2 and a second runway, upgrades to An Thoi International Port, the development of an APEC Convention Center, new transport links and a light rail transit (LRT) system.

According to published plans, many major infrastructure components are expected to be completed between 2026 and early 2027, both to support the APEC event and to enhance Phu Quoc’s long-term international tourism capacity.

The launch of the Bangkok – Phu Quoc direct route is expected to increase Thai tourist arrivals to Vietnam, create new opportunities for travel businesses in both countries to develop innovative tourism products and further reinforce Phu Quoc’s position as a rising regional tourism and aviation hub ahead of APEC 2027.
