Sun PhuQuoc Airways Opens New Direct Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Phu Quoc

Sun PhuQuoc Airways has launched a new international route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, bringing the total number of international routes operated by the airline from Phu Quoc to seven, following Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Chengdu and Bangkok.

The Kuala Lumpur route was launched with the support of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board and the Embassy of Vietnam in Malaysia, aiming to strengthen air connectivity between the two markets while contributing to the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

According to published figures, more than 70,400 passengers travelled on the Kuala Lumpur–Phu Quoc route in the first seven months of 2026. The launch of the new direct service is expected to meet growing demand for travel and tourism between Malaysia and Phu Quoc.

With the addition of Kuala Lumpur, Sun PhuQuoc Airways is gradually expanding its international network from Phu Quoc to major aviation hubs across Asia. The airline previously operated routes connecting Phu Quoc with Taipei, Seoul, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Chengdu and Bangkok.

In 2026, expanding its flight network has been identified by the airline as one of its key development priorities. The new routes are expected not only to serve demand for direct travel but also to provide international visitors with more options for travelling to Phu Quoc.

Passengers flying with Sun PhuQuoc Airways can enjoy benefits under the airline’s “Resort in the Sky” programme, including complimentary checked baggage, light refreshments, beverages and wireless in-flight entertainment.

The programme also incorporates selected destination benefits, including complimentary Sun World Hon Thom cable car tickets, WOW Pass priority access and discounts of up to 30% on accommodation, dining and entertainment services within the Sun Group ecosystem.

The airline is pursuing a full-service model, offering a range of services both onboard and at the airport to provide passengers with more options and convenience across its international routes.

The expansion of the international network comes as Phu Quoc accelerates the development of international tourism. With an increasingly diverse air network, travellers from major Asian hubs now have more direct flight options to the island, reducing the need for connections through intermediary airports.

According to Sun PhuQuoc Airways, Kuala Lumpur is its seventh international route from Phu Quoc. Connecting with another major aviation hub in Malaysia is expected to help expand the island’s international visitor base while providing greater access to regional source markets.

Alongside its network expansion, the airline said it will continue monitoring market demand to adjust flight frequencies and develop additional destinations where appropriate. The goal is to gradually build a more comprehensive network connecting Phu Quoc with major tourism and aviation hubs across Asia.
