Vietnam’s tourism sector continues to reach new milestones as the number of visitors in August hit a record high compared to the same month in previous years, despite being considered the low season.

According to data released on September 7 by the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, the country welcomed nearly 14 million international visitors in the first eight months of the year, up nearly 22% compared to the same period last year.

In August alone, more than 1.68 million travelers entered Vietnam, an 8% increase from July and the highest figure ever recorded for the month of August.

Although this period is typically the low season for international travel, the strong growth in July and August signals positive momentum for Vietnam’s inbound tourism market.

From January to August 2025, Vietnam received almost 14 million international visitors, a year-on-year increase of 21.7%. For 2025, the country has set a target of 25 million visitors.

China remains Vietnam’s largest source market, with more than 3.5 million arrivals (25.4%), followed by South Korea with over 2.9 million (20.9%). Other top markets include Taiwan, the United States, and Japan. Cambodia (445,000), India (443,000), Russia (377,000), Australia (358,000), and Malaysia (344,000) also rank among the top 10 source markets.

In terms of regional growth in August 2025, the strongest increases came from Europe (+33.2%), Asia (+21.3%), Oceania (+14%), the Americas (+9.1%), and Africa (+4.7%). Major source markets with particularly high growth included China, Japan, India, and Cambodia.

Notably, Russian arrivals surged by 164.9%, making it one of the fastest-growing markets.

Traditional markets targeted by Visit Indochina also recorded strong growth, including the Philippines (+93.4%), Cambodia (+50.7%), Laos (+33.1%), Indonesia (+13.1%), Malaysia (+9.8%), Singapore (+9.4%), and Thailand (+8.1%).

The Indian market continues to grow steadily, reflecting its significant potential.

This September, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism is organizing promotional programs in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to strengthen Vietnam’s presence in the Indian market. These events aim to create a platform for Vietnamese and Indian businesses to connect, expand cooperation, and boost two-way tourism exchanges.
