Da Nang Named Vietnam’s Only Destination in Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel 2027
On September 23, Lonely Planet, the US-based travel publisher, unveiled its Best in Travel 2027 list, featuring 50 destinations and experiences selected for their potential to inspire travellers in the year ahead.
Da Nang is the only destination in Vietnam to make the list.
In its September edition, Lonely Planet highlights Da Nang as a Central Vietnamese destination where mountains, beaches, a laid-back atmosphere and distinctive cuisine come together.
The city is home to a long stretch of beach right within its urban landscape, while the Son Tra Peninsula offers a tranquil setting and sweeping views of the sea.
From Da Nang, travellers can also take day trips to three UNESCO-recognised heritage sites: the Complex of Hue Monuments, the My Son Sanctuary and the ancient town of Hoi An.
One of the city’s most iconic landmarks highlighted by Lonely Planet is the Golden Bridge, located in the Ba Na Nature Reserve on the summit of Chua Mountain.
Beyond its well-known attractions, Da Nang is described as a destination that caters to a wide range of travellers from those seeking a leisurely getaway to those looking for active experiences and packed itineraries.
The city’s growing appeal is also reflected in its visitor numbers. In the first eight months of the year, Da Nang welcomed more than 14.2 million overnight visitors, up nearly 25% year on year. International arrivals reached nearly 7 million, an increase of 26%. Revenue from accommodation and food services during the same period totaled nearly VND 47 trillion.
Elsewhere in Asia, Lonely Planet’s five featured destinations also include Okinawa, Japan; Chengdu, China; Gujarat, India; and Fulidhoo Island, Maldives, alongside Da Nang.
The list also highlights five experiences - travelling by traditional boat to orangutan habitats in Malaysia, exploring India’s Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, trekking along Japan’s Michinoku Coastal Trail, experiencing Taiwan’s culinary scene and discovering the architecture of Astana, Kazakhstan.
