Speaking at the First International Conference on Rural Tourism, organized by the UN World Tourism Organization in Quang Nam on December 10, Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long announced that Vietnam has welcomed over 115 million visitors since the beginning of 2024.

This includes over 100 million domestic tourists and 15.8 million international arrivals, marking a 41% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Vietnam’s tourism sector is also targeting 18 million international visitors by the end of 2024.

Deputy PM Le Thanh Long emphasized that tourism, as a smokeless industry, plays an increasingly significant role in national economies and represents the future of global development. Most countries are now investing in green, friendly, and sustainable tourism practices.

The Vietnamese government has consistently introduced and implemented policies to promote agricultural and rural development, integrating rural tourism into major development programs. Many provinces, including Lao Cai, Quang Nam, and Can Tho, have introduced compelling tourism products.

Notably, Tan Hoa Village (Quang Binh), Thai Hai Village (Thai Nguyen), and Tra Que Vegetable Village (Quang Nam) have been recognized by the UN World Tourism Organization as some of the best tourism villages.

“Vietnam is ready to continue active collaboration with the international community and the UN World Tourism Organization to implement new initiatives and innovative approaches for developing rural tourism. This aligns with principles such as ‘one village, one product,’ ‘every citizen as a tourism ambassador,’ and ‘each locality showcasing its unique tourism product,’” emphasized Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long.

During the conference, international speakers and UN World Tourism Organization representatives expressed admiration for Vietnam’s tourism strategies. Particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic, Vietnam has demonstrated one of the most impressive tourism recovery rates in Southeast Asia.

Tourists visiting Vietnam tend to stay longer and immerse themselves in the unique cultural values of different regions. They also appreciate the professionalism of Vietnamese hospitality, the preservation of traditional cultural values, and the efforts to maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
