Travel magazine DestinAsian has officially announced its list of Asia’s 10 most beautiful islands as part of the Readers’ Choice Awards 2026, voted by readers worldwide. Phu Quoc was the only representative from Vietnam to make the list, rising into the Top 2 across Asia.

This marks the third consecutive year that “Pearl Island” has appeared in the prestigious ranking. Previously, Phu Quoc ranked 6th in 2024 and climbed to 5th place in 2025, reflecting the island’s growing appeal among international travelers.
Vietnam’s “Pearl Island” Enters a New Era of Tropical Tourism
According to DestinAsian, Phu Quoc is undergoing a remarkable transformation to become one of the region’s leading resort destinations. The magazine described the island as opening “a new era of tropical tourism.”
One of the most highlighted areas is South Phu Quoc, especially Sunset Town. The destination has attracted visitors with its coastal architectural complex, large-scale entertainment offerings and nightly multimedia performances combined with spectacular fireworks displays.

A number of iconic tourism landmarks are also helping elevate Phu Quoc’s image on the international travel map. Among them is Kiss Bridge, a striking architectural structure stretching along the southern coastline, as well as the Hon Thom cable car, introduced as one of the world’s longest three-wire sea-crossing cable car systems. The experience has become a favorite among international visitors traveling to the island.

Beyond the “Most Beautiful Islands” category, Phu Quoc’s hospitality sector also gained remarkable recognition at this year’s awards. In the “Best Vietnam Resorts” category, the island had five representatives featured in the Top 10 resorts in Vietnam.
According to tourism observers, the increasing presence of internationally branded resorts is gradually shaping Phu Quoc into Vietnam’s premier “resort island,” similar to how Bali, Indonesia, has established its reputation on the global tourism map.
Another Major Cable Car Project Approved in Phu Quoc
On May 17, authorities officially approved the investment policy for a second cable car route connecting An Thoi and Hon Thom Island. The project is part of a strategic cooperation program between Sun Group and An Giang Province aimed at further developing Phu Quoc’s tourism infrastructure.
According to announced plans, the new cable car line will stretch approximately 6 kilometers, with a designed capacity of 25,000-28,000 passengers per day, equivalent to around 7,050 passengers per hour. The project is expected to help ease pressure on the existing route while enhancing connectivity to the entertainment and resort complexes on Hon Thom Island.

Alongside sunset experiences, the journey to Hon Thom by cable car has become one of the most memorable activities for travelers visiting Phu Quoc.
Suspended above the vast ocean, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views where sea and sky merge on the horizon. The emerald waters and scattered island landscapes create a spectacular scene that leaves a lasting impression on travelers from around the world.
Phu Quoc is also undergoing major upgrades in preparation for the APEC 2027 series of events. The continuous expansion of tourism infrastructure, accommodation and entertainment facilities is helping the island strengthen its competitiveness against many renowned resort destinations across the region.
