With this recognition, Vietnam now has five villages listed among UN Tourism’s “Best Tourism Villages,” including Tân Hóa (Quảng Trị), Thái Hải (Thái Nguyên), Trà Quế (Đà Nẵng), Quỳnh Sơn (Lạng Sơn), and now Lô Lô Chải (Tuyên Quang).

Nestled at the foot of the Lũng Cú Flag Tower — the northernmost point of Vietnam — Lô Lô Chải Village sits at an altitude of about 1,470 meters above sea level. Known for its serene charm, the village has become a must-visit stop for travelers exploring the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau.

The village exudes rustic tranquility, with stone-paved alleys, moss-covered walls, and century-old yin-yang tiled roofs. Passing through the stone gate, visitors are welcomed by fresh mountain air and the slow-paced rhythm of village life.

Home to about 120 households, mostly Lô Lô ethnic people, the community has embraced community-based tourism, with more than half of the families now welcoming guests into traditional homestays.

Each season brings its own charm — spring blooms with vibrant flowers, summer is cool and breezy, autumn drapes the village in mist, and winter warms hearts around the flickering firelight.

Authentic Cultural and Homestay Experiences

In recent years, community tourism has flourished. Many young entrepreneurs have renovated old earthen-wall houses into cozy homestays, preserving their original architecture and cultural essence. Visitors can freely stroll through the village, where locals are known for their warm hospitality.

Peace is found in the smallest moments — a cat napping in the sun, the scent of wood smoke at dusk, or the soft sound of footsteps on ancient stone. Spending a night in Lô Lô Chải offers travelers a genuine taste of highland life: roasting corn by the fire, sharing stories with villagers, and savoring home-cooked meals like smoked pork, corn wine, and traditional highland dishes.

Each homestay is simple yet inviting, run by local families eager to share their customs, songs, and culinary traditions — turning every stay into a cultural exchange.
