In mid-March 2025, representatives from two major airlines in Vietnam and the region announced two important flight routes, expected to bring a surge of visitors to Vietnam’s top tourist destinations: Ha Long Bay and the pearl island of Phu Quoc.
New Flight Route Connecting Singapore – Phu Quoc
On March 11, Vietjet Air officially launched a direct flight route connecting Singapore to Phu Quoc.
This route will begin operations on May 30, with an expected annual passenger capacity of around 500,000 and a frequency of 78 flights per week.
Beyond bringing international tourists to the “pearl island,” this route will also make it easier for travelers to connect to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Bangkok, and more than 110 other destinations.
According to statistics, Vietjet has contributed to bringing over 13 million passengers to Phu Quoc, helping transform the island from a remote destination into a leading tourism hub in the region.

With over 80,000 hotel rooms and rapidly developing infrastructure, Phu Quoc is now ready to host major international events such as APEC 2027, contributing to Vietnam’s economic integration on a global scale.
New Flight Route Connecting Thailand to the UNESCO World Heritage Site – Ha Long Bay
In addition to Vietjet’s new route, another major flight route, expected to bring an influx of visitors to Ha Long Bay—a UNESCO-listed natural heritage site and a top travel destination in Vietnam—has also been introduced.

AirAsia will operate a new Bangkok – Hai Phong flight route starting from July 16, 2025, with a frequency of four flights per week.
With this new route, AirAsia will become the airline with the highest number of flights between Vietnam and Thailand, covering routes from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and Hai Phong to Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) and Hanoi – Chiang Mai.
Nguyen Son Thuy, Director of Visit Indochina, noted that the new Cat Bi Airport route will provide greater convenience for Thai travelers and international tourists traveling from Bangkok to Cat Ba and Ha Long.
Instead of having to transit through Noi Bai Airport, direct flights to Cat Bi Airport with well-timed schedules will make travel to Ha Long and Cat Ba much more convenient.
Tourists will have more time to explore the natural heritage sites, stay longer, and experience the region more fully.
“Cat Ba is an emerging and attractive destination for international visitors, recently benefiting from strong infrastructure investments such as cable cars, entertainment shows, new accommodation options, luxury cruises on the bay, and other stunning natural landscapes that enhance the appeal of this travel route.

Cat Ba, Vietnam
We are currently researching and developing tourism products that integrate cultural heritage, connecting travel experiences across Hai Phong, Cat Ba, and Ha Long. By extending the duration of international visitors' stays, expanding sightseeing and experiential tourism options, and diversifying tourism activities in the region, we aim to attract even more travelers,” Mr. Thuy said.
