The Vietnamese government has decided to exempt citizens of 12 countries from visa requirements when entering Vietnam from August 15, with a permitted stay of up to 45 days, in an effort to boost tourism.
On August 11, the government issued Resolution 229 on visa exemption under the tourism stimulus program for citizens of Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Switzerland. Nationals of these countries entering Vietnam for tourism purposes may stay for 45 days regardless of passport type. The policy will be in effect from August 15th 2025 to August 14th 2028.
Earlier in March, the government unilaterally extended visa exemptions for citizens of 12 other countries: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Russia, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
This brings the total number of countries whose citizens can enter Vietnam without a visa under the unilateral policy to 24.
The government has also issued a resolution granting visa exemptions for six priority groups to support socio-economic development. These include guests invited by senior leaders or provincial authorities; scholars, experts, scientists, university professors, research institute members, chief engineers, and high-quality digital technology industry personnel; investors and executives from the world’s top 100 companies by market capitalization; individuals in culture, arts, sports, and tourism who have a positive public influence; and, specifically for football, players ranked among the world’s top 100 by reputable international organizations who are invited to compete or participate in exchanges with professional Vietnamese clubs.
Other eligible groups include Vietnam’s honorary consuls abroad and guests invited by major research institutes, universities, and enterprises.
According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, in the first seven months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed 12.2 million international visitors, an increase of 22% compared to the same period in 2024.
