Invited as the final guest of the year on Quang Nam radio and television's program, Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy, director of Visit Indochina, presented ideas on how to strategically develop tourism in Quang Nam.
As one of four special guests on the program discussing the tourism landscape of Quang Nam for 2024 and 2025, Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy joined the Director of Quang Nam's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyễn Thanh Hồng, Vice Chairman of Hội An People's Committee Nguyễn Văn Lanh, and representatives from the Hoiana Complex. They all agreed that Quang Nam is emerging as a bright spot in Vietnam's tourism picture.
Many destinations gaining attention after COVID-19
According to Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy, after the pandemic, not only has Hội An received more attention from visitors, but other areas in Quang Nam are also seeing increased interest, especially lesser-known regions such as Tây Giang and Đông Giang mountains, as well as the southern coastal areas of the province.

To achieve sustainable tourism growth, Quang Nam must build a strategic tourism development plan and take advantage of new trends and opportunities in global tourism. Tourism needs to be linked with environmental protection, heritage conservation, and offer unique experiences to visitors.
Mr. Thủy emphasized that heritage tourism, especially in Hội An, is gradually becoming overloaded. Local authorities and the tourism industry must come up with solutions to alleviate congestion and expand the tourism space into new regions.
He suggested that the sustainable development strategy for Quang Nam should focus on green tourism products, connected to environmental protection and local culture. Ecotourism, community-based tourism, and experiential activities in rural villages, mountainous regions, and coastal areas will be unique products that attract nature enthusiasts and those interested in learning about local culture.

“Tây Giang, Đông Giang, and the southern coastal areas of Quang Nam have great potential for green tourism development. These areas not only boast pristine natural beauty, which has not been heavily impacted by mass tourism, but also preserve many rich cultural values of ethnic minorities. If approached correctly, tourists will disperse to experience these areas, and Quang Nam will have more new tourism products,” Mr. Thủy shared.
Expanding the tourism space to avoid overcrowding and emptiness
According to Quang Nam's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in 2024, Quang Nam attracted over 8 million visitors, with tourism revenue reaching over VND 9,000 billion marking the best growth in history. Quang Nam has continuously received international awards and positive evaluations in global tourism rankings.
To expand the tourism space, Mr. Thủy stated that it is essential to immediately improve infrastructure, particularly international transportation connectivity. Chu Lai Airport, which has the capacity to accommodate international flights, needs to be upgraded and expanded to attract tourists from major markets such as China, South Korea, and Eastern Europe.
In addition, developing railway and seaport routes, especially Chu Lai - Trường Hải seaport, is necessary to increase connectivity between Quang Nam and major cities like Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hue.
Moreover, tapping into international air routes from markets like Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and other Asian countries will be key for Quang Nam to attract a larger number of tourists.
“The local government needs to collaborate with airlines and travel companies to open direct international flights to Chu Lai, facilitating international visitors to come to Quang Nam and enjoy the destination,” Mr. Thủy recommended.
Building unique and distinctive tour products
Appreciating the tourism direction of Quang Nam, the Director of Visit Indochina expressed that travel businesses are eager for the province to invest in and create policies that attract cultural and community-based experiences in the western ethnic minority areas like Đông Giang and Tây Giang.
One promising direction is sports tourism, particularly marathon events in Tây Giang and Đông Giang. Additionally, motorcycle tours exploring Quang Nam’s heritage routes, from Hội An through National Highway 1 to Hue, will offer visitors a completely new exploration experience. These tourism products not only create uniqueness but also contribute to the development of long-distance tourism, connecting different localities in the region.
Furthermore, there is a need to develop ecotourism tours in coastal areas, wetlands, and rural regions, creating sustainable and attractive tourism products. Local communities will play a crucial role in developing community-based tours, preserving culture, and improving the livelihood of residents.
In addition to being a guest on Quang Nam Radio, Mr. Nguyễn Sơn Thủy also received several interview requests from major stations such as An Ninh TV, Da Nang Radio and Television, and Vietnam National Assembly Television at the beginning of 2025.
Sharing with domestic media, Mr. Thủy expressed optimism about the increasing number of international visitors to Vietnam in the near future. With careful attention, open visa policies, and continuous updates to destinations, Central Vietnam, with Huế, Da Nang, and Quang Nam leading the way, will see an influx of tourists in the coming time.
