Touched by the plight of Ms. Tran Thi Lam and her family—including her younger sister, mother, and grandmother—living in Thanh Quyt neighborhood (An Thang Ward, Da Nang City), Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy, Director of Visit Indochina, has donated VND 200 million to help the local authorities build a new house for the four women.

Mr. Thuỷ presents the donation of VND 200 million to the event organizers.
On the evening of July 25th, during a special cultural performance hosted by An Thang Ward, and witnessed by various local units and officials, the An Thang People's Committee formally received the VND 200 million donation from Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy. The donation will go toward building a new home for Ms. Tran Thi Lam (22 years old) and her family in Thanh Quyt.
Receiving this heartfelt and unexpected gift, Ms. Lam expressed deep gratitude for Mr. Thuy generosity and the support of the local authorities.
Thanh Quyt neighborhood, where Ms. Lam and her family reside, was formerly part of Dien Thang Trung Ward, Đien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province. As of July 1st, Quang Nam merged this area into Da Nang City. An Thang Ward was formed by combining several nearby localities, and Thanh Quyt came under Da Nang’s jurisdiction.
Ms. Trần Thị Lam’s family lives in extremely difficult conditions. She is the eldest of two sisters and has just graduated from the University of Education, University of Da Nang. However, she has not yet found a full-time job and is currently tutoring to earn a living. Her younger sister is in her final year of university. Their mother, Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lien, had been married, but due to mental health challenges, the family broke apart. Years ago, Ms. Lien brought her daughters back to live with her elderly mother, Mrs. Tuan (now over 80 years old).

The House's design
To earn enough for daily meals, every morning the family heads to a nearby market to sweep the grounds and clean public toilets. Their income depends on small change collected from people who use the market restrooms—usually just VND 80,000–100,000 per day. Out of love for their mother, Lâm and her sister have been helping clean the market since they were students, tidying up vendor stalls for the community. Out of sympathy, some vendors would occasionally give them extra money.
Despite her age and frailty, Ms. Tuan also buys bunches of vegetables in her neighborhood and sells them at the market for a few dimes each day. The family’s income barely covers food and medicine. Their house has long been in severe disrepair, with leaks on all sides during rainstorms, but building a new home had never seemed like a possibility.
In early July, a friend shared Lam’s heartbreaking story with Mr. Nguyen Son Thuy. Moved by her situation, he contacted the local government for verification and assessment. He then decided to sponsor the full VND 200 million needed for the house renovation project proposed by the authorities for Lâm’s family.

Mr. Thuỷ is discussing construction plans for the charity house with locais leaders.
The project came together quickly and decisively. The site is currently being surveyed and designed, with construction set to begin in the coming days. The house is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
This is truly a beautiful and meaningful story of compassion and community spirit. It spreads positivity and will surely become a cherished gift from the heart for a struggling family in An Thang Ward.
Join Visit Indochina in counting down to the day this heartfelt, radiant project comes to life.
