Vietnam’s major urban tourism hubs recorded remarkable growth during the recent New Year holiday, as domestic and international travel demand surged across the country. As in previous years, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City remained the most visited destinations, while Da Nang emerged as the standout performer with exceptional growth in both visitor numbers and tourism revenue.

Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and Hanoi recorded the highest tourism revenues nationwide during the 2026 New Year holiday, reflecting strong domestic and international travel demand across major destinations.

According to data released by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the New Year holiday period saw a sharp increase in tourist arrivals nationwide compared to previous years.

Ho Chi Minh City ranked first, welcoming an estimated 1.24 million visitors to its tourist attractions. Average hotel occupancy reached approximately 75%, while total tourism revenue exceeded VND 2.6 trillion.

Da Nang followed closely in second place, reporting total tourism revenue of around VND 2.445 trillion. International arrivals accounted for approximately 345,000 visitors, representing more than half of the city’s total tourist volume. Beachfront hotels in the 4- and 5-star segments recorded occupancy rates of 80–90%.

According to the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, this strong performance was supported by the full restoration of international flight routes, large-scale New Year countdown events, diverse tourism stimulus programs, and favorable weather conditions.

Destinations Gear Up for Lunar New Year Tourism Rush

Following closely after the New Year holiday, the Lunar New Year (Tet) remains the most important traditional celebration in Vietnam and several Asian countries such as China, Japan, and South Korea. It is also the peak season for travel companies, as tourist demand reaches its highest level of the year.

During Tet, Vietnamese people temporarily suspend business activities to reunite with their families, exchange New Year wishes, and celebrate the beginning of a new year. Cities and tourist destinations across the country are beautifully decorated, creating a festive atmosphere filled with renewal and vitality.

International visitors are particularly drawn to Vietnam during this period, as they are warmly welcomed everywhere and can experience the country’s distinctive Tet traditions—festive, intimate, and deeply rooted in cultural identity.
