Visit Indochina has recently hosted a Thai travel group on a journey through three of Northern Vietnam’s most iconic destinations: Hanoi – Ha Giang – Tam Dao, offering an immersive experience of nature, culture, and seasonal landscapes.

From September onward, Northern Vietnam—from Hanoi to the highlands of Ha Giang—is wrapped in mist as temperatures begin to cool. Travelers arriving via Noi Bai International Airport head north toward mountain destinations such as Ha Giang, Fansipan, and Tam Dao, creating a lively peak-season atmosphere.

Visiting Northern Vietnam during this period reveals a deeply atmospheric side of the country: a misty Hanoi touched by autumn winds, Tam Dao floating between drifting clouds, and the serene Ha Giang Stone Plateau, where silence and vast landscapes leave a lasting impression.

According to long-term data from Visit Indochina, the number of Thai travelers to Ha Giang and Tam Dao has increased steadily over the years. These destinations appeal strongly to Thai visitors thanks to their close connection with nature—especially during the year-end season when Northern Vietnam’s cool climate contrasts pleasantly with Thailand’s tropical heat.

During the December tour organized by Visit Indochina, the Thai group enjoyed memorable days exploring the Ha Giang highlands.

On the first day, the group visited Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of Vietnam’s most spectacular mountain roads, offering panoramic views over the Nho Que River. The year-end season draws visitors from across the country to Ma Pi Leng, eager to capture the dramatic limestone scenery and observe the peaceful daily life of Dao, Nung, and Tay ethnic communities.

At Lung Cu Flag Tower, guests learned about Vietnam’s northern border region and local life. The journey continued to Lo Lo Chai Village, where travelers experienced indigenous culture firsthand, observing traditional earthen houses and the daily routines of the Lo Lo people.

Once a small village nestled quietly in the valley, Lo Lo Chai has gained international recognition thanks to sustainable tourism efforts. The village was recently honored with the title of World’s Best Tourism Village 2025.

On the second day, Visit Indochina’s guides accompanied the group on a boat trip along the Nho Que River. December is considered the best time for this experience, with emerald-green water and excellent visibility through the majestic Tu San Canyon.

The group also stopped at Doc Tham Ma, a scenic viewpoint offering sweeping views over the surrounding limestone valley. In the evening, travelers explored the local night market, shopping for brocade products and highland specialties.

On the final day, the group traveled to Vinh Phuc Province to visit Tam Dao Square and Tam Dao Stone Church. The town’s cool weather and misty atmosphere are key attractions for Thai visitors, many of whom enjoy strolling and photography around the town center.

According to Visit Indochina, Tam Dao has long been a favorite short-haul destination for Thai travelers due to its easy access, cool climate, and cloud-covered viewpoints.
